What services does Selfhelp provide?

Nationally recognized as an innovator in home care and supportive senior housing, Selfhelp provides 3 million hours of quality care annually. Our six senior centers serve approximately 8,000 senior citizens. Last year the centers also served 157,358 hot lunches and 35,175 home delivered meals.  Our naturally occurring retirement communities or NORCs offer social services to many New Yorkers who have aged in place. Selfhelp’s renowned Guthery Institute of Home Care Training addresses critical nursing shortages with a unique mentorship and career path planning program for 400 aides per year, who wish to enter the field of nursing. Selfhelp continues to respond to populations in crisis with programs that address specific illnesses, such as HIV/AIDS and Alzheimer’s Disease. We also offer New Yorkers an opportunity to pre-plan future care, through our innovative new private care management program called “Selfhelp Senior Source.”

Are there fees associated with the services that Selfhelp provides?

Some of our services are provided for free, some are covered by insurance, Medicaid or Medicare, some ask for a small contribution and some require a fee. At Selfhelp, we make every effort to help our clients understand and receive their full range of benefits and government entitlements. Our carefully trained and committed staff works hard to help clients navigate the complex and often daunting maze of government and social service agencies, legal and financial regulations, required papers, and will even assist clients with the filing of application forms, to ensure that they get the services they need.
