Home Care Training | Competency Evaluation Program

The Guthery Institute offers New York State Department of Health approved home health aide training for certified home health aides and personal care aides. Its core curriculum and health related tasks are conducted in classrooms, a clinical skills laboratory, and in patient homes. Training takes two to three weeks depending on the level of certification requested. The Institute also provides a competency evaluation program for certified aides looking to re-kindle their skills for new employment and continuous in-service classes so that aides may fulfill their certification requirements

Unique to Selfhelp is its innovative Career Path and Mentorship program, which provides several days of training on workforce readiness, as well as access to a mentor, who will assist with problems or questions during the aide’s first year of employment. Aides are also encouraged to take their employment at Selfhelp to the next level with opportunities to become a mentor, training associate, or nurse. This program is co-sponsored by STRIVE.
