Selfhelp initiated program services for New York City’s first Naturally Occurring Retirement Community (NORC) program at Penn South, a large apartment complex in Manhattan. Selfhelp now services five NORCs—large cooperative housing complexes where longtime residents now need assistance to continue living in their own homes. The NORC program provides a wide range of on-site services, including health screening, case management, counseling, as well as social, recreational, and educational programs that are open to all seniors. They also offer special transportation arrangements, home care services, community trips, and many opportunities for using individual talents in a volunteer capacity.
