On January 14, 2011, Selfhelp led 75 local, state, and national organizations in demanding that the United States Attorney withdraw a lawsuit against New York City that would result in denying Medicaid personal care services to people with extensive needs for assistance. The suit with give seniors and people with disabilities who need 24-hour home care no alternative but nursing home placement, violating the Americans with Disabilities Act and the Olmstead decision of the U.S. Supreme Court.
