How QuietCare Saved Gloria after a Bad Fall
Eighty three year old Gloria lives alone in Selfhelp’s housing. Last month, she fell in the bathroom and couldn’t get up. Luckily Gloria was protected by Selfhelp’s QuietCare System. Within just about an hour, a bolt cutter had sawed thru her chain locked door, an EMS worker helped her to safety and Gloria was able to share her success story with her family and friends.
Here’s what happened in between. When Gloria didn’t leave the bathroom in her normal timely manner, Gloria’s son and her Selfhelp Social Worker, Nancy, received QuietCare’s email alert about the unusual break in Gloria’s daily routine. When Nancy was unable to reach Gloria by phone to make sure she was OK, Nancy and a maintenance worker rushed to Gloria’s apartment. After knocking on the door several times, they opened it and discovered the door had been chain-locked. While the maintenance worker dashed off for a bolt cutter, Gloria yelled to Nancy that she was on the bathroom floor, unable to move.
The bolt cutter and EMS arrived at same time. Gloria was checked from head to toe and then helped to her feet. As shaken up as she was from the fall, it was quickly established that Gloria hadn’t broken anything and her vital signs were OK. Nancy phoned her son with the good news.
Gloria and her family knew that without the remote sensor technology in her home, she might have remained on the floor, alone and scared. Thankfully, a major crisis was averted.
